Guru Nanak stayed with Jaita, a confectioner, and sent Mardana into the city to have a jewel valued. Only the jeweller Salis Rai understood its worth; he became a Sikh, took the Guru into his home, and his house later grew into the Chhoti Sangat, today's Takht Sri Harimandir Sahib.
