Sheikh Sajjan, who kept both a mosque and a temple for travellers, secretly robbed and murdered his guests. Hearing the Guru sing through the night with Mardana's rabab, he confessed, gave away his ill-gotten goods and turned his house into a dharamsala, which the Puratan Janamsakhi calls the first such centre.
