Bhai Gurdas (Vaar 1.35-36) says 'the Baba went to Baghdad and made his seat outside the town'. There Guru Ji sang, debated the Sufis and, by tradition, astonished the pir's son with a vision of countless worlds (echoing Japji's 'lakh agasa agas'). A room and an Ottoman Turkish inscription commemorating 'Baba Nanak' were later set up beside the tomb of Bahlul Dana; Sikh soldiers found the inscription in World War I.
